Why Isn’t There Air Conditioning at Kever Rochel?

kevrYahadut Hatorah faction head MK Menachem Eliezer Moses raised the issue of air conditioning in Kever Rochel during a Knesset plenum session. Moses explained there has not been air conditioning for about two months, the result of a fire in an electric box at the holy site. He added that the issue of lighting was only addressed temporarily but the air conditioning appears to have been forgotten. He pointed out to his colleagues who may not be aware that there are no windows in the location.

Moses stated he does not blame anyone since there was the electrical fire but he does not understand why relevant agencies are not dealing with the necessary repairs. “I am certain that now that I have raised the matter here the relevant officials will take the actions required to bring an end to the suffering at that location” Moses stated.

  1. I was there last week & the heat was so bad I almost passed out. I left before I davenned & before I finished my Tehillim. Something MUST be done – what about fans? Better than nothing.

  2. To Computerbubby:

Considering that several dozen generations of yidden somehow managed to daven at kever rochel and other holy sites before Al Gore invented air conditioning, your whining doesn’t reflect well on your kavanah.

  3. To “chachom”: Kever Rochel was much different back then. I still remember when it was just that small building built by Sir Moses Montefiore (I believe). It was fairly open to fresh air. And just 2 and 1/2 centuries ago, it was entirely out in the open, without any building around it at all.

  4. motchah: How’d your zaidas and bubbes manage without indoor air conditioning for thousands of years, until less than 100 years ago?

  5. Since they built the new addition there is no way to ventilate the place. that does NOT mean anybody is davening without kavanah.
